Hamakua Youth Foundation presents its fourth annual Hula Festival fundraiser on Saturday at Honokaa People’s Theatre.

The event, which benefits Hamakua Youth Center, the primary program of the foundation, gets underway at 4 p.m. with an oli by foundation children. It will feature halau from Hamakua, Hilo and Waimea showcasing dancers in both kahiko (traditional) and auana (modern) styles.

Among the performing halau are Hula Halau o Aloha under the direction of Kumu Hula Aloha Dela Rosa; Halau Na Lei Punahele under the direction of Kumu Hula Punahele Andrade; and Beamer Solomon Halau o Poohala under the direction of Kumu Hula Hulali Covington. Also performing is Hula Me Ka Honua under the direction of Lanakila Mangauil. A community hula hui, Hula Me Ka Honua caters to those seeking an avenue to peer or dive into the realm of Hawaiian cultural knowledge.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for students, and children younger than age 12 enter free. Tickets will be available at the door.

The Hamakua Youth Foundation is a community grassroots organization dedicated to creating nurturing and stimulating programs for youth ages 5-18.
